Upon request, the Marine Center accepts students from various schools and institutions for extramural training and thesis work. We hope to be of some help in the field of the natural environment, and in other fields as well. We can share with you the technology and information we have cultivated since the founding of the Ogasawara Marine Center, including the ecology and research of green turtles and humpback whales and environmental education using this information as learning materials.
Transportation: You are responsible for your own expenses.
*Please contact the local boat administrative company, Ogasawara Kaiun, for information on fares and schedules for the Ogasawara Maru boatliner.
Cost: 500 yen used to fund our sea turtle conservation activities if you stay at the Marine Center. Also an additional instruction fee of 2,000 yen will be charged. Total: 2,500 yen per day.
- In the case of lodging in the Marine Center, food and other items will be purchased jointly with the volunteers present at the time.
- If you are a commuter, you will be charged only the instruction fee.
Note:
- We will only accept students who are willing to work on their own initiative and themes (i.e., the objectives of the school or institution). We do not provide a curriculum or program.
- If the only purpose is to gain work experience, please check our work experience page.
- If you wish to stay overnight on the Ocean Center grounds, please note that volunteers will be given priority. We cannot accept you unless there is a vacancy, especially during the spring and summer vacation seasons. If you are interested in staying at the center, please contact us first.

If you are not able to swim with three items (mask, snorkel, and fins), you may not be able to accompany a sea turtle survey.

To apply, you will need to prepare a request form, resume, request for facility use, research plan, and other necessary documents.
